Broken promises: the story of our lives. Mind you, it’s not that we are bad people, it’s because we want the Caipirinha Appreciation Society to deliver the best  cliché-free Brazilian music there is. So we promised a show about Moraes Moreira, but when we took a dive into his work we realized it was so intense and revolutionary that we needed more time to digest it. Furthermore, we had only just made a show about Omolu (i.e. diseases and death) and following it with an obituary was a bit too much, emotionally speaking, specially in times of quarantine. In short: we had what Kika has coined ‘podcaster’s block’. And our solution was...

In order to relax and clear our minds, we went for something completely different: recent releases and other songs we’d never played in the CAS show :

(1) Estranhos Românticos’
exceedingly good second album. An album full of surprises, among other reasons, because the band was no more as of the first day of recording! You would expect a lousy job to get rid of this thing quickly. Wrong. The album is even better than the very good debut album.

The album has been very well received by critics in Brazil and beyond and is enjoying very good reception on radios around the world, especially college radios in the USA.

(2) the prolific Ben Charles from the Amazonian state of Roraima - now living in Northeastern Brazil - is a singer and guitar player that simply can't stop creating. The impression we have is that he released three dozen songs during this pandemic alone. We focus in his album influenced by dub that he is called 'DuBen', a word play that evokes the Brazilian expression '... do bem', meaning something or someone of good nature. Check out his Youtube page for more.

(3) Porcas Borboletas is a band formed in 1999 in Uberlândia (Minas Gerais, and NO it's not the land of Uber). They have three albums and in this show we play one song from their   2013 release 'Porcas Borboletas' and another from their album 'Momento Íntimo', from 2017.

Our vids of the week are:

China - Moinhos de Tempo feat. Bell Puã
From China's album  'Manual de Sobrevivência para Dias Mortos'.
To complete the package Bell Puã recites the poem O Rugido do Leão do Norte.

Ferro - Fake
A live version recorded at the studio/stage of Radio Universitária of Recife, Pernambuco.
That's something we really envy: a
studio/stage.

Toinho Melodia - Pretexto Adubado
Toinho is the old 'bamba' from São Paulo for whom we dedicated part of the CAS 490 | Sao Paulambuco and the man is not afraid of making experiments:  here is a Jamaican  approach to his song 'Pretexto', composed by himself, Lello di Sarno and Rodolfo Gomes.

Jongui - Exorcizo
In times of lockdown and uncertainties, from a corner of his room Jongui delivers his manifesto about the actual state of affairs in Brazil. Check out the lyrics below the video.

Jean Mafra - The End
Lyric video of the weird 'The End', an analysis of the nightmares that our daily doses of virtual realities are imposing on our lives. Video created by
Bruno Ropelato

Cuscobayo - O Brasil vai acabar.
Yet another lyric video, yet another song of acid critique and dissent. The first single of the new album by the band Cuscobayo. Evil, corruption and horror directed by Matheus Fighera

All that right below the complete playlist of CAS 506 !

Jongui - Exorcizo
esse cadáver insepulto
qual um cancro, quão imundo
sua pulsão, o seu impulso
é provocar mais um defunto
esse maldito louva tiro
do seu antro, da sua bula
em sua rede como um vírus
sua torpeza inocula

se atormenta em seu escuro
cai a pranto em madrugada
se alimenta em obtuso
correio zap de cilada
se refestela no que é muro
tua polêmica é nada

você não tá entendendo nada
você nunca entendeu foi nada
você não tá entendendo nada
você nunca entendeu foi nada
e exorcizo o teu horror

esse capanga, esse pau oco
qual um santo de milícia
uma ilusão, na letra um tosco
perece em toga na matilha
o sociopata da finança
em seu banco vê senzala
no sermão sua bonança
pra garantir sua canalha

você não tá entendendo nada
você nunca entendeu foi nada
você não tá entendendo nada
você nunca entendeu foi nada
e exorcizo o teu horror

desta feita cabe aqui
como um manto quase um lucro
talvez fugaz canção e que
tua história é teu sepulcro
