For the complete playlist click 'Read More' link below The name of the episode defines the mood: calm, meaning that we tried to achieve a more relaxed show. Few big beats, little controversy or even too much talk. Note that we are experimenting with a new format to present you new albums in the show. The highlighted artists are Céu with her new album Apka! Her fifth album is produced by Pupilo (ex-Nação Zumbi) and Hervé Salters (General Elektriks) and is literally a postpartum record: having to give up the frenzy of gigs and touring for a while to relax at home before giving birth to her second baby, Céu started to create the album. It has contributions from Caetano Veloso and Dinho Almeida (Boogarins), Seu Jorge, Mark Ribon and Tropkilazz . At our first listening, we made the mistake of comparing Apka! with her excellent previous album having the impression that it was more of the same...
...Soon we realized that the more you hear it, the more it grows on you.
This episode also features Romero Ferro, singer from the city of Garahuns - Pernambuco, recently released his second album, Ferro. In spite of being a great defender of ‘frevo’, his work is heavily based on the sounds of the 80s, since his first album, Arsênico. In this new release the 80s influence is still there, but now with an added ‘brega’ element. Brega is a type of tacky romantic music that is part of the culture from Pernambuco, where alternative artists are not afraid of meddling with this style, so appreciated in the North and Northeast of Brazil. In the show we mentioned that the album was produced by Dj Patrick Tor4, but we were wrong, it is produced by Leo D, keyboard player of Nação Zumbi, Patrick was the Artistic Director. Last but not least, the carioca Dossel, whose real name is Roberto Barucho. Roberto is a producer and an arts activist, curator of some important events and part of a group called Norte Comum, that was created to move and and give visibility to the culture from the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, an area with great artists but few venues to play, apart from being being ignored by the press. Dossel, who is also a composer with partnerships with artists such as Mahmundi, released his first solo album called 'Ouvindo Vozes' in November 2019. Our vids of the week are: Potyguara Bardo - Oasis Potyguara Bardo is a singer/actor/drag queen from from Rio Grande do Norte with only one album released, called Simulacre. With a very nice voice, peculiar performances and his Spok years he managed to catch out attention with this vídeo recorded at Studio Mangolab. Pra te Conquistar - FERRO Director Marionaldo Junior created the 80s ambience of this song from Ferro’s new album making use of loads of electric colors and geometric patterns so characteristic of the film TRON and may video clips of the 80s. Thiago Pethit - Mal dos Trópicos feat. Ilú Obá De Min Excellent live recording of Mal dos Trópicos with the contribution of the percussion group Ilú Obá De Min from São Paulo in a show at SESC Pinheiros, The size of the scenery is fit for the high level of energy of this piece. Avec Moi - Toco y Me Voy Clever clip made with images of the fantastic film called ‘The Dayses by chzec film maker Vera Chytilová in 1966 Dossel - Ijexá de Fevereiro Yet another live recorded clip, yet another clip shot at a gig in a SESC theater, this time by Dossel, from Rio de Janeiro with an ode to Yemanjá, the Queen (and goddess) of the Sea.
