For the complete playlist click 'READ MORE' below We’ve been away for few days and we couldn’t find a way to make a decent post about this episode aired back in April. But as we say in Brazil, ‘a fila anda’ (translating literally, ‘the cue moves on’) and we also have the post for the next episode on the pipeline... In this episode we played some tracks from the debut album by Muntchako, an ‘electro-instrumental’ band from Brasília and some edits and remixes that we frequently play in our parties. Here is a definition of Muntchako’s sound, by themselves:
“Three minds, three worlds and a bunch of different influences. From Funk to Tango, from Morocco to Araripe, from Ska to Afrobeat, Camboja to Samambaia, from Cumbia to Arrocha: this is how the talented trio composed by Samuel Mota (guitar, synths and programming), Rodrigo Barata (drums and samplers) and Macaxeira Acioli (percussion and samplers) stride by electronic frequencies and world-music beats without borders. Raise the volume, move the furniture out of the way and shake your ass.”
Our vids of the week are: Muntchako - Golpe The first video to promote their debut album - also called Muntchako - is a crazy piece inspired in the 1970s/80s Japanese action TV series directed by André Miranda, all with a karaoke twist - try to sing along the instrumental track to add fun. Rincon Sapiência - Coisas de Brasil The video clip directed by Luba Construktor (A.K.A. Dj Asma or Luis Rodrigués) invites us to a trip around Brazil and its people, adding images to Rincon's rap. It was shot in Veranópolis (Rio Grande do Sul), Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador and Minas Gerais, trying to depict the many faces and routines of real Brazil. Carmen Miranda - O que é que a Baiana tem? Rare footage from the film "Banana da Terra" (1939) with original sound. There are many videos of these scenes but most of them are with the sound of the vinil recording of this song. This is a very important moment in the career of Dorival Caymmi, his first shot to conquer bigger audiences in Brazil. The producers wanted to have Carmen singing "Na Baixa do Sapateiro" by Ary Barroso but they couldn't meet his financial demands. Caymmi, having recently arrived in Rio, got the spot and even performed the song with Carmen. BUT FIRST THE PLAYLIST:
