![]() By MdC Suingue For the complete playlist click 'READ MORE' below When you move to another city or country, eventually it will happen: one day you have to visit your hometown. It’s always an intense time as you have to take the opportunity to make sure the personal life you left behind is all in working order, meaning: see your bank manager, your accountant, the tax office, the voting authorities, plus spend time with your friends and family. It’s cool if you can stay for an extended period, but if you’re there for only 3 weeks - with Christmas and NYE in the middle and half a dozen invitations to DJ - it can get a little hectic. But we survived to tell the story!...
From Preto Serra’s epic birthday party to a New Year’s Eve that ended up with us in the middle of ocean, being watched by a sea turtle. From a nice and cool dj session at Mãe Joana to a crazy Balkan party. We had it all! Not to mention the CAS party at Casa Porto, with a live performance by Mussa Samba Combo and the presence of many dear friends.
We had loads of fun, we know our ways in our beloved city, but the sad note was the decadence and the poverty that is spreading quickly in Brazil in general and in Rio in particular, where we have one of the most incompetent mayors in our history. If you’re an old-time listener of the Caipirinha Appreciation Society show, you’ll be familiar with our criticism of the gentrification and corruption promoted by Eduardo Paes, but the state of decay of the city under Crivella’s rule is downright depressing. If Paes was governing for the 1%, the pastor is governing for his church’s croonies. All that said: music is resistance, and we brought to you a bucketload of that in this show! Our vids of the week are: Pedro Luis e A Parede - Horizontes Taken from the album Ponto Enredo, the 5th by the carioca band from 2008, here they perform a very peculiar version of the beautiful (Quatro) Horizontes for the site Música de Bolso. Joana Flor - O Que Me Resta With a small band the singer and guitar player Joana Flor shows how powerful is her music. She was born in Rio but lives in São Paulo and this song is a hit in our playlists. Luisa & Os Alquimistas - Brechó L.&O.A. Is a band formed in Natal - Rio Grande do Norte in 2015. Brechó is a song from their first album called Cobra Coral released by the label DoSol in 2016. Cronixta - Taxi Driver Cronixta AKA Dime Cronista is a rapper from Pará, state located in the north of Brazil. Taxi Driver, song inspired by the Scorcese's film, is our lyric video of the post. Nice low budget vid, directed by the man himself. I love the track. But I can't help blaming the production assistant for his failure to find a taxi for the shots, hahaha! All that right below the complete playlist of CAS 477 !
