Well, one day we have to end the celebrations for our 500th episode landmark, right? I hope you listeners had as much fun listening as we did making this trilogy. We have to praise Kika Serra for having the idea and the patience to compile and classify the bands according to the number of times we've played them over the years. We don’t want to place undue importance on that list, really. Some artists have been with us since the early days of the show, and those naturally have an advantage over more recent discoveries. So we can't say we love this or that artist "more" based on their position on those charts. But they did provide us with great material for three classic shows, no doubt. ![]()

Note that in Rio, up until the late 90s, the sacred and the profane mingled in the NYE party on Copacabana beach, with many 'terreiros' from Rio represented in a really beautiful party. That was when the people from Rio went to the seashore to offer gifts to Yemanjá, the goddess of the sea. All that said, although she is celebrated on New Year's Eve, February 2nd is the official day of Yemanja, the "water goddess" according to Afro-Brazilian tradition. This classic episode of the Caipirinha Appreciation Society podcast brings a collection of Brazilian songs composed about the queen of the sea - enjoy the music! |
